Wool tapestry, 'Shadow'
The shadow of the Inca and their geometric artistry is evident in the work of Peru's Gerardo Fernndez. Working on a traditional loom, he preserves Ayacucho's weaving techniques as he creates this mesmerizing tapestry. Big and small crosses flank ancient glyphs in a composition that boasts colorful symmetries. Fernndez signs each piece "SUMAC, " meaning "beautiful" in the Quechua language. Titled "Llanthu" in Quechua.
